Zied OUESLATI - Fer Metal Plus

Since he can remember, Zied wanted to start his own business. Driven by his passion for handling Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machine tools, and after more than 4 years of experience in the precision mechanics industry, he achieved his dream of launching his own business ‘Fer Metal Plus’.

Thanks to his technical skills, Zied is able to create precision metallic constructions with several different machines to offer his customers a wide range of products, from ornamental fences to wrought iron furniture.

In 2014, after learning about the Mashrou3i program at the Kef Business Center, Zied decided to participate in an HP LIFE training, organized by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with the support of USAID, the Italian Cooperation and the HP Foundation. Through the face-to-face training he improved his skills in personnel management, production management, financial management and marketing.

“The skills I learned in the training have been decisive in the preparation of my project, and I’m still using them to perform the day-to-day management of my company.”

His great motivation, accompanied by the coaching of the Kef business center and the expertise of the UNIDO experts from Mashrou3i, enabled him to officially launch Fer Metal Plus in January 2015 in the city center of Kef.

The  140m² premises now has eight machines for welding, folding, cutting and assembly as well as one of only two engraving machines in Tunisia. Three skilled employees work for Zied and help him to develop many creative and innovative products that meet the demands of the first customers (doors, windows, grates, tables and chairs).

“My ambition,” says Zied, “is to become the leading provider in my region by making the most of innovation and creativity in the field of wrought iron. To achieve this goal, I am already looking for a new CNC machine and will also do another specialized training to learn how best to operate it. This will improve my ability in the design of some more complex products. I also plan to hire 2 more technicians by 2018.”
