Sofien Khlif - KarwiSoft

Originally from Kairouan, Sofien Khlif studied at the University Laval in Quebec, Canada. After graduating with a degree in computer science, he spent five years working on a variety of projects for a computer engineering company in Canada as well as teaching the company’s clients how to use its technology.


Passionate about IT and wishing to participate actively in the economic development of his home town, Sofien decided to launch his own software development company, KarwiSoft, on his return to Tunisia from Canada in 2012.


In 2013, wanting to reduce risk and give his new business a strong start, Sofien decided to take part in the HP LIFE face to face training offered by UNIDO through its Mashrou3i project.


"It is not possible to become the boss of a business without mastering the basics of management”, says Sofien, “The three day entrepreneurship training course gave me solid tools that have enabled me to lead my company and my team confidently today".


The subjects covered by the HP LIFE training were particularly useful for Sofien’s business development: as well as the Hiring Staff course which helped him to recruit strong, competent salespeople, the Marketing modules and, more specifically, the Social Media Marketing course, were also key: proven by the KarwiSoft Facebook page’s strong impact on the business this year.


Other useful topics, including how to identify fixed and variable costs and customer relationship management all helped Sofien develop the KarwiSoft business. Today KarwiSoft has a team of 15 employees consisting of engineers and designers.


The KarwiSoft team is currently working on a range of projects from website development for small local businesses to the development of mobile applications for large financial institutions. As well as carrying out work for Tunisian institutions, such as NTT or Nohowtechnology, KarwiSoft has also worked for customers in France and Canada who are impressed with the agency’s quality of work and their competitive prices.


Sofien is proud of his reputation and works hard to find new customers and partners. He travels frequently in Tunis and overseas and participates in major technology trade fairs. "I am currently working intensively with UNIDO experts to develop my marketing strategy,” he says. “I am confident about the future. If everything goes as planned, the KarwiSoft business will be expanding in 2017.”
